Feb. 26th, 2007 08:53 amyou are using a router to connect to the internet.
telling your isp that your PC is coming up with "cannot find server" error is totally unhelpful.
We do not support your router.
You bought it from PC world, and it's a belkin.. so ask PC world or belkin for help with it.
if you don't know what error your router itself reports or even if your router and computer are connected to each other then there isn't anything i can do.

Date: 2007-02-26 09:06 am (UTC)SoCal, probably Interstate 15, general vicinity of Bakersfield but out in the damn middle of nowhere in the desert? Been awhile since I've been out that way...

Date: 2007-02-26 12:11 pm (UTC)As soon as they hear "I have a router" they reject the customer and tell them to call someone else.
90% of the time I get there, plug the computer directly into the modem, and they still don't have a connection.
So now instead of the customer talking to Verizon/Comcast/Whatever for free, they now have to pay me to call them.

Date: 2007-02-26 06:04 pm (UTC)So I try to be nice and make sure I'm at least telling them to ring the right tech support line.. it'd just be nice if sometimes they'd make just a little bit of an effort.
"What are the lights on the front of the router doing?"
"Lights? Router?"

Date: 2007-02-26 11:36 pm (UTC)By the book, you shouldn't have to explain to people how to unplug and plug in a "Fat Phone Cord".
Most Tech Agents throw the book out after the third concussion from the Head-Desk Manouver.

Date: 2007-02-27 12:18 am (UTC)Granted--we're only hearing one part of the story here (for all we know, sirxaph asked them to do the above and they refused, in which case I could quite agree with dropping their call, since you'd then have no way to know if it was an actual ISP problem or *just* a networking problem), but this sounds like poor handling of a customer. :-/
