me: Ok, here's patch 5.
user: Okay, I have the file. It's still failing.
me: Did you install it?
user: No, but I have it.
me: You have to install it.
user: Why?
me: Because it's not compatable unless you're running at least patch 5.
user: But why do I have to install it on *every* machine??
me: because it has to be installed to be compatable.
user: That just doesn't make any sense!




Along those same lines, I'm just going to wave that packet of birth control pills around in front of my abdomen, and hope it works.

No, no, waving the birthcontrol packet around is too active! You have to just leave it on the bathroom shelf and look at it occasionally!

Don't forget the ones who use the word "download" to refer to everything from an actual download, to the installation process, to copying files from a CD. And in almost all instances of the use of that word, think that whatever they're using it to refer to is all they need to do to Magickally Fix Everything. :)

BTW, I have to friend you now, because this is the second community I've seen you on, unless you're lurking on motorcycles as well .. :)

For a while I had a published technote in our knowledgebase that said our products will not work unless they are installed. Eventually an editor without a sense of humor removed it, but I did get to reference it in countless tickets before it disappeared.
