I'm sitting here doing software installs for the company I work for. I don't do IT support anymore, but I know how to install software (because it's JUST SO FREAKIN' DIFFICULT), so I've been recruited to work here while our company deploys 10,000+ brand new Dell D620s to replace our three-year-old thinkpads.

Some machines arrived with damaged components.

And now I'm sitting here next to a tech support guy contracted to Dell to do hardware replacements.

He broke the keyboard trying to replace a part.

I'm sorry. What? I've taken apart three Dell laptops of varying models, plus my boyfriend's iBook G4 and my clamshell iBook G3, and I've got to tell you...I've never damaged a keyboard yet.

I wonder how much this guy is getting paid...

Ah, outsourced flunkies. yay!

Somebody's smoking crack down there because they just shipped me a D620 with half an AC adapter. I got the cord that plugs into the wall, but not the one that plugs into a laptop, and it's like pulling teeth with CS trying to get a replacement.

He's likely getting paid ~$xx per call, with a mileage stipend only if they exceed a certain number of miles from their home.

One of my co-workers did that for all of 3 months, and he said it sucked ass through a very small straw.

It can, but it's not a bad job if you have a fuel-efficient car and loathe close supervision.

Oh lands, you should meet the guy they sent out with a motherboard replacement.

He had literally--- NO CLUE.

Seriously-- the guy didn't know how to remove/reinstall a new motherboard. I wish I was kidding. If we didn't know how, we would've have been SOL.

*argh*
