I have a customer who installs computers all over the country to run electronic billboards. An employee of theirs has spent the last week pestering me about one site's inability to stay online.
He claims it drops out every 20 minutes.
I did a test of the ADSL line and router, which both came back clean.
Still dropping out every 20 minutes.
Pinged the router every 5 seconds for over 24 hours. Not a single packet dropped.
Whine.
Sent massive email missive to said employee who sounds like he's permanently baked, explaining how there is no broadband fault, everything is clean and frankly working beyond expectations. Advised he check his computer.
(... a week goes by...)
Several more phones calls come in in a flurry to coworkers. Eventually, I get the stoner pushed through to a manager. Manager tries to talk him through checking his computer's connections (which he told us he had done several times, and even replaced them).
Manager: You're getting "no network cable connected" on the PC? Have you checked the patch cable?
Supposedly IT competant customer: What's a patch cable?
*head desk smack*
