This is fucking hilarious.

At one point you could go from one end of the town I did business in to the other end jumping from wireless router to wireless router and never be without internet access (other than obviously the time it takes to identify)

How cool would it be if everyone used the same SSID and just openly shared their internet with everyone. You could go throughout your city with one massive wireless network.

You'd need to set up some routers in AP mode, and make sure everyone isn't talking on different channels... it's a mess really :/

It's the whole "Why should I pay for you to use my bandwidth" thing.

But then I'm the guy that leaves an old LinkSys turned on but unplugged from the internet laying around...

Just what level of stupid leads someone to *admit* they were stealing bandwidth on a radio broadcast, anyway?

I thought I was the only one! All it goes to is a web page hosted on one of my boxes that says, "Buy your own Internet, enter password to proceed" and submits empty to itself.

I run the rickrollternet in my apartment building. :-)

My town is blanketed, downtown, with free Wi-Fi for all, actually.
